Audio Commentary of Music Track

The audio commentary for the final soundtrack was upon as it was fitting with the film genre.
The soundtrack was vital as it help to give over emotions which the audience should feel throughout: for example tension and scared.

The commentary script

"The beginning of the music starts at an average speed with two deep pitched 'boom' sounds which foreshadow the traumatic events that will occur to the protagonists. We thought this would be an effective start as it will work well alongside the three girls before they are taken.
After 20 seconds the beat of the music stops suddenly and low pitched drum beats are introduced. The continuity of the beats act as a countdown to the action, they also signify the idea of a sudden shift in the equilibrium. We believe that this worked well as it evokes a conventional feeling of anticipation which is commonly felt in thrillers.
Between 27-44 seconds, this section of the music is quite a long interlude. this also tells the audience that there will be a shift in the equilibrium. Therefore, making the audience pay attention to everything they see, in order to anticipate the traumatic events which will be later introduced in the trailer. This part of the soundtrack is conventional in a thriller and is effective in reinforcing our message - that fate does not discriminate and nothing goes according to plan.
From 44 - 58 there is a change in tempo for the action parts. It increases in volume and speed to show the chase scene. This is a vital part in our soundtrack as we intended to sync it with fast paced shots.
After that section the volume increases even more and is therefore introducing a more intense feeling of anxiety. our intention for making the tempo intensify is to overpower our audience's sense of desperation. We wanted the pace to symbolise a heartbeat, seeing as generally when people feel scared they experience a "heart raising moment" when you can physically hear your heartbeat in your ears. The overpowering sound of the track aims to do just that as it is really effective in emotionally moving our audience."

Analysis of fonts and texts

Titles and text within a trailer can come in a variety of sizes, fonts and colours to bring to light many aspects such as emotions and genre of the film.

Titles:

The title is there to be the most striking in font, size and colour as this needs to be the most memoral visual the audience see when viewing the trailer. When looking at titles from Eden Lake, Sorority Row and House at the End of the Street they had many things in common. The text is bold and placed on a black background to make the writing stand out evenmore. Only one colour is used for all the word/s in order not to distract the the viewer with to much other than the singular colour. The colour schemes for thrillers seem to be, red or white with can connote death, danger, purity, blood etc. Occasionally other colours are used such as yellow; altough this does not suggest death, danger etc it still is so bright that it draws you directly in.

Our film title is in a deep red and the wording is of a place where the film is set. The title does not give to much away however it does have some aspects which dig deeper. These are the words 'queen' and 'war'.
The word war within the whole title tells the audience there is going to be a fight/ battle of some kind. The word queen within QueensDown highlights to the audience that there is a woman who is in charge and on top. Within our trailer we see a girls struggle to fight the perpetrators, but within the film it envolves that eventually the fight is over and the girl comes out on top.

Additional text:

Text within the trailer is prominant in thriller trailers to help the audience grasp what is happening as the shots are very fast. The text is usually in a statement form in order to inject the audience with information. There are usually three or four blocks where text is inserted and although each statement works togther to build up a setentence or sceniro all flashes of text make sense on there own.
The text is in white in order to constrast the black background. By having the text in white it grabs the audiences attention drawing them into the words and making them think.

Music Inspiration

Music is vital for any film in order to help build up emotion in the audience as well as to help the audience decide the genre of the film. We had decided on a thriller genre and the music linking with this is to create a sound bridge for invoking an atmosphere.
There should be stages in the trailer where the music is quiet and suttle in order to constrast the loud, fast past and intense sections. When dramatic footage is shown this is when the music should build and lastly at the very end the music should either fade out to add suspense or come to a sudden end to shock the audience.

Inspiration for music in our trailer came from Woman in Black at 50 seconds - 1minute 10 seconds and from the music by E.S. Posthemus - Unstoppable track. This track at 2.03 - 2.40 showed intensity and for me sd it showed a good build up to give off emotion.
In our trailer the intense moment of soundtrack was roughly at 2 minutes 35seconds. This was the part that there was visual hype and thrill in the trailer which matched the music.

Magazine Progess

Final Cover:

Initally the image directly above was going to the used for the magazine cover as the girl is in character which is a convention of film magazine covers. However it then came about that a convention is not to have the setting as the background but to have something such as a colour to resemble the setting.
Furhture more when researching we found that the character was just posed on the cover rather than acting in character. The character is usually waist up and taking up a large proportion of the cover and in some cases even over lapping the magazine title. The Image directly above follows neither of the conventions so was discarded. The image chosen does not ignore conventions like the other trail cover.

Media Theorists

Anaylsing the theoriest was an effective process for us as a group, becasue we were able to understand the reasons why people watch or listen. Once understanding the reasons we were able to adjust our trailer so that audiences would watch for a variety of reasons and fit with what one of the theoriests states.

By incoorperating theoriests into our promotional package resulted in an effective trailer because the target audience could either identify with aspects such as a group of friends going on a trip, or be taken away from reality as our trailer is a very extreme case and the example for this would be the kidnapping.

Poster progess

The posters below are drafts and trails to lead up the the final product. The reason for having so many drafts were to experiement and build up layers such as text and a billing block and also to play around with different lights. The vital that the poster is up to a high standard and looks as though it would fit in with professional posters. The importance of the poster is to aid the marketing of the film.

The final image used for the poster:

Final Poster:

Throughout the poster process numerous images were taken in a variety of locations in order to give the group a range to chose from. In addition to the various locations there were many different positions tried in order to get the body language of the victim and perpetrators fitting for the film.
The images had to be taken in the day even though the final poster is dark. The reason for this is that on the camera the images look darker resulting in a very unclear picture. The way we over came this was to correct the lighting on Photoshop in order to give an even look. The way in which this was created was by copying the background layer of the image using the controls followed the format of: Filter > Render > Lighting Effects.

Although the overall image is dark the perpetrators are still visible in the background just enough so there presence is there. There is high key highing around the victim in order to show she is the main character as well as good.

The other side edges of the poster have been darkened further than the rest in order to give the impression the girl is enclosed and trapped not only by the surroundings but the two men behind her.

The reasons for the the positions are as followed:
The two men are behind her lurking to give the impression they are following the girl and are in dark clothing to highlight to the viewer that they are not the nice characters.
The girl is positioned on the floor at the front to give the view that she is trying to get away from the men. In addition she has been placed at a lower level (on the floor) to show vunerability and not as physical as the men which also resembles her to have lower staus because of the levels created. Lighter clothing is worn by the victim in order to show light and the fact is is not trying to hide behind dark clothing shows she is not a threat.
